Biography:
Inez Elliott Andersen, born in 1899 in Leeds, Alabama, completed both
her B.S. and M.A. at George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.
She was a teacher in the Birmingham, Alabama public school system, assitant
director of curriculum for public schools, and taught at Arkansas State
University and Pan American College.
Co-founder of the Poetry Society of Tennessee, Andersen was the first
poet laureate of the organization. She held membership in several organizations
including the World Poetry Society, the National League of Pen Women,
the Tennessee Woman's Press and Authors Club, and the Alabama State
Poetry Society- where she was named Poet of the Year in 1975. Inez Elliott
Andersen won many honors and awards including the grand prize of the
Alabama Writers Conclave in 1978 and was named a colonel aide-de-camp
to Governor Lamar Alexander of Tennessee in 1980. ( International Who's
