Technololgy Resources

Computers in the Library
A graduate student computer lab is located in Room 642, Hodges Library. A full-service computer lab operated by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is available on the ground floor of the Hodges Library. You may find a list of software and equipment available in the labs by accessing the OIT website. Public workstations throughout the libraries offer access to the library catalog, databases, full-text digital collections, and the Internet. Printing is available for a small fee in public service areas of the libraries and in the computer labs.

Loaner Laptops
Loans of laptop computers are offered for use in the Hodges Library, the Agriculture/Vet Med Library, and the Music Library. Go to the circulation desk in these libraries to check out laptops for a three-hour period. One renewal is allowed when there is no waiting list.

Remote Access to Electronic Resources
Currently enrolled students have off-campus access to almost all electronic resources subscribed to by the UT Libraries. Those students using an outside internet service provider must their UTK NetID and password to be authenticated.

Wireless
Wireless Internet access is available throughout Hodges and the branch libraries. To access the wireless network, you need to have a wireless card installed on your laptop or use one of the library loaner laptops. See the OIT website for information on purchasing a wireless network card.

Volprint
Printing from computers in the University Libraries is simple and convenient. Cost is 2 cents per page-side for students using their All-Star accounts, which are set up through the VolCard office. Should you be unable to use your All-Star account, copy cards are accepted for printing in some library locations for a charge of 6 cents per page-side.

Media Services

The Media Center
Audiovisual collections and playback equipment for individual viewing or listening are available in the Hodges, Music, and Agriculture-Veterinary Medicine libraries. In the Hodges Library Media Center (974-4473) teaching assistants may reserve large group rooms for class viewings. Video transmission is possible to these rooms or hands-on equipment use is available. The Media Center will also lend videotapes to instructors for three-day classroom use.

The Studio
The Studio is a multimedia production lab for computer-based creation of media-enhanced educational projects. Incorporate graphics, animation, sound or film clips into assignments. Faculty and students may check out digital still cameras, digital video cameras, microphones and tripods. Long-term server storage space and consultation services are also available. The Studio is located in the Media Center on the second floor of Hodges Library.
