Politics of the Middle East

Library Resources

The University of Tennessee Libraries has a wide range of resources on the Middle East. Some are restricted only to UT students, faculty and staff. Consult the Online Catalog for book materials.

Databases

This selected list will take you to journal articles, many of which are full-text.

  • Academic Search Premier
  • Access to full text journals dealing with topics from many disciplines. Middle Eastern policy and issues are covered in several journals. Includes a significant number of policy journals (i.e. such as Middle East Policy, Middle East Journal, the Economist, and several other policy journals.

  • Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO)
  • Includes working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences, books, journals and policy briefs.

  • Europa World Plus
  • The online version of the Europa World Yearbook and Regional Surveys provides political and economic information on countries and territories. Includes all the countries of the world.

  • JSTOR
  • A multidisciplinary archive of scholarly full-text journals. Availability is from date of inception to "a moving wall" which is about 2-5 years from current date. Titles include: International Journal of Middle East Studies, Middle East Report, and Journal of Palestine Studies.

  • LexisNexis Academic
  • Has articles from a variety of media organizations, including Al-Jazeera, Arab News, Mideast Mirror and Jerusalem Post.

  • PAIS International and PAIS Archive (Public Affairs International Service)
  • A good source for both references to journals, books, government documents. It is a public policy resource and will cover the issues of concern related to the Middle East.

  • Project Muse
  • A full text interdisciplinary database of scholarly journal articles. Over 6o publishers are represented. Access to journals such as World Politics, Journal of Democracy, Journal of Developing Areas.

  • United Nations-Access UN
  • An index to the offical records and publications of the United Nations. Documents are from the 6 main UN bodies, including the General Assembly and the Security Council. Full text resolutions back to 1998.

  • WorldWide Political Science Abstracts
  • A comphrensive resource for political science literature. Some of the journals that are indexed are: Middle East Focus, International Affairs, International Journal of Politics, Middle East Policy, and Middle Eastern Studies.
