Periodical Databases

A variety of databases are available that identify journal articles. Many are available electronically through our library network but are restricted to UTK faculty and students. An increasing number are full text. A selected list follows:

  • Academic Search Premier
  • This multidisciplinary databases provides full text articles from both scholarly and popular sources.

  • Business Source Premier
  • Covers a wide range of business periodicals, including The Economist, Risk Management, Journal of Commerce and Commercial,PR Newswire, The Oil Daley, and Chemical Week.Major subject headings are risk management-environmental aspects, environmental policy, occupational health and safety.

  • Factiva
  • Provides access to full text articles in regional, U.S. and international newspapers, including newswires.

  • Lexis Nexis Congressional
  • Excellent site for publications of Congress, including congressional testimony.

  • Lexis Nexis Environmental

    Contains indexing of environment, energy issues from conference reports, governmental documents, and journal articles.

  • National Journal Group's Policy Central
  • A comprehensive resource on politics. Includes Poll Track and daily news briefings of the latest political developments.In addition have access to National Journal, Hotline, CongressDaily,The Almanac of American Politics.

  • PAIS(Public Affairs Information System)
  • Information from 1972 to the present. Covers a wide range of public policy information from journals, books, and government documents.

  • Science Direct
  • Full-text access from 1995 to present for journals to which UTLibraries subscribes from Elseiver and its affiliated publishers. Has an environmental science subject category.

  • Social Sciences Abstracts
  • Over 350 periodicals from the fields of anthropology, area studies, criminal justice, community health and medical care, urban studies, sociology, social work, policy studies, political science, psychology, and other related disciplines.

  • SOCIOFILE
  • Information from 1963 to the present. This is the electronic version of Sociological Abstracts.
