  • Brueckner's French Contextuary
    Reference PC2460.B78
  • This 1975 work provides full contextual illustrations of over 11,500 basic English words used in combination and translated into idiomatic French by French translators, interpreters, and teachers. It also provides the native French speaker with a clear analysis of English meanings and many of the common uses of the same basic words.

  • The Cambridge French-English Thesaurus
    Reference PC2591.L24 1998
  • This bilingual thesaurus is aimed at English-speaking learners and users of French at an intermediate to advanced level. It is arranged thematically with each category including sayings, proverbs, quotations or usage notes connected with the topic.

  • Cassell's Contemporary French: A Handbook of Grammar, Current Usage, and Word Power
    Reference PC2129.E5W67 1992
  • Aimed at English-speaking learners and users of French, Part 1 provides a concise reference grammar. Part 2 demonstrates how to use the contemporary language in specific contexts. Part 3 concentrates on building up the reader's word power in French.

  • Dictionary of Contemporary French Connectors
    Reference PC2395.G75 1996
  • This is a dictionary of French connecting words and phrases, defining, discussing, and giving examples for some 200 connectors. Included are about 200 full alphabetical entries and some 400 other connecting structures, plus an introduction on common functions and English structures.

  • Dictionary of Modern Colloquial French

  • The purpose of this bilingual dictionary "is to enable the non-native speaker to 'get the drift' of what has been written or said in French and, equally important, to 'tune into' the foreign language wavelength."

  • Harrap's New Standard French and English Dictionary, 4 vols.

  • A standard leading dictionary in the field, this work includes an emphasis on modern, technical, scientific, and industrial elements as well as the modern language, complete with colloquialisms and idioms.

  • Harrap's Slang Dictionary

  • The purpose of this dictionary is to allow greater access to the daily languages of English and French speaking cultures. Many examples of usage are provided. Indexes of slang synonyms are found at the end of each section.

  • Old French-English Dictionary

  • This dictionary is designed for both the general and specialist reader of Old French texts including students, scholars, philologists and historians. It is based on a large and varied number of texts up to ca. 1350, starting from the "classics" of medieval French literature and extending through all the genres: epic, romance, religious, moral, didactic and allegorical texts, lyric poetry, drama, humor and satire, as well as nonliterary historical, political and legal documents. A wide range of variant spellings are included as well as the main dialectal forms. Detailed definitions and grammatical functions are provided, together with common phrases with their translations.

  • Oxford-Duden Pictorial French and English Dictionary

  • This title identifies over 28,000 objects by means of numbered illustrations and offers at a glance their French and English terms. This edition includes recent innovations in science and technology. Detailed and comprehensive alphabetical indexes in French and in English allow the dictionary to be used either way--as a French-English or an English-French dictionary.

  • The Oxford Guide to the French Language

  • The first half is a guide to French grammar with sections on verbs, nouns, adjectives, punctuation, translation problems, etc. A French-English/English-French dictionary concludes the work.

  • Oxford-Hachette French Dictionary

  • The third edition of this title offers the user a true picture of both French and English at the beginning of the twenty-first century. It also serves as a guide to communication between two languages and cultures.

  • Oxford Paperback French Dictionary

  • A compact dictionary with the maximum amount of useful material.

  • The Quebecois Dictionary
    Reference PC3635.B4713 1982
  • This work is a condensed and adapted version of the 17,500 words and 5,500 expressions found in Dictionnaire de la Langue Quebecoise (Hodges Stacks PC3635.B47). It is intended as a handbook to explore Quebec and the language of its people.
