The Journalism & Electronic Media Subject Guide presents selected print, electronic, and Internet resources relevant for completing research at the UT Libraries. Resources are also useful for learning more about the field in general.

JEM 200: Introduction to News Writing

The following resources will help you to complete your research and assignments for JEM 200. Many of these resources provide good starting points for you - pointing you towards other resources that will help you to complete your course work. The best place to start is with the Libraries Homepage.

Journalism and Communications Databases: A list of databases useful for research in the fields of journalism and communications. Databases located closer to the top of the list are most closely related to the discipline. Those located closer to the bottom of the list will be related or general (multidisciplinary) databases. A list of full-text databases is also available.

Library Guides: The Libraries' offer a number of subject guides in different disciplines, including a Journalism & Mass Communication guide, and other guides that will make your research easier.. Guides designed for other disciplines may also be useful and are ideal places to start when dealing with unfamiliar subject matter.

Biographical Information: The best online and print resources for locating biographical information.

Current Events/Hot Topics: Resources to help you locate information on current events or to see the current hot topics in the news.

Statistics: Resources for locating statistical information.

Directories: Directories can offer various amounts of information, including contact information for people in the field. Directories from other fields are also useful in journalism and news writing, allowing you to fact check and locate that quick information you are looking for.

Business Resources: Information on businesses including company profiles, stock information, and contact information.

Newspapers: Guides you to the numerous resources provided by the Libraries' to access both current and archived news information from local and worldwide news sources.

Tennesee Information: Guides you to resources that will help you locate information on the state of Tennessee.

"Other" Websites: Additional online resources that may be helpful for your research.
