This session will explore pedagogical strategies for educators through several themes and methods. The first portion of the session will provide an overview of several issues related to Latino immigration and schooling, including the link of globalization and transnationalism to Tennessee's changing student demographics, understanding key dimensions of cultural differences, and recommendations for teaching best practices, including the concept of humanizing pedagogy.

Several Latino students who came to the U.S. as children will share stories about their schooling experiences, and an anthropologist whose work encompasses immigrant childrens' transcultural psychiatric health will add comments.

This session involves a dialogue among educators who will share their experiences and strategies through their work with preK-12 Latino immigrant students in the East Tennessee area, as well as immigrant students from other world regions.
