Speakers: Dr. Stephanie Bohon

Stephanie Bohon Stephanie Bohon is a demographer and Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Georgia.

She holds degrees in economics, political science, sociology, and demography, including a doctorate in demography and sociology from Penn State University.

Her work on Latino immigration and immigration policy has been published in several journals including Social Problems, Rural Sociology, Population Research and Policy Review and The Journal of Latinos and Education, and she is the author of Latinos in Ethnic Enclaves: Immigrant Workers and the Competition for Jobs.

Dr. Bohon is best known for her work on the growth and needs of Latino migrants in the South, which examines the difference between Latino migrant adjustment in traditional and emerging gateways. She is currently examining policy responses to immigration in Georgia with funding from the Century Foundation.

She has received teaching and research awards, including the M. G. Michael Award for innovative research and the Southern Program Excellence through Research award for the application of research to social programs. Her work has been reported by several national and international media including National Public Radio, BBC-London, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Chicago Sun-Times, and USA Today.
