Guide to English Language & Literature

Internet Guides

These guides are general collections or "meta-indexes" of literary Internet links. They are a good place to begin a search for networked materials dealing with language or literature. Try using search engines like Google and Yahoo as well.

  • BookWire: Inside the Book Business
  • Site run by R.R. Bowker. Links to a variety of information generally about contemporary publishing and literature.

  • EServer.org
  • Formerly the "English Server." An interesting combination of original works and pointers to other sites. Hosted by Iowa State University (formerly at University of Washington and Carnegie Mellon). The site includes texts, electronic journals and other Internet materials on many subjects.

  • Labyrinth: A World Wide Web Server for Medieval Studies
  • A clearinghouse for materials from around the Internet. Includes electronic texts, bibliographies, lectures, and professional information. Source materials in Latin, French, Italian, and Middle English.

  • Literary Resources on the Net
  • Impressive Meta-index of resources compiled by Jack Lynch of Rutgers-Newark. Arranged in chronological and topical categories.

  • Voice of the Shuttle
  • A very extensive meta-index of humanities Internet resources, including sections for: Literature in English, and Literatures other than English.
