Arranged by property name, these guides list print and electronic resources containing specific properties. The lists do not necessarily reflect the holdings and location at the University of Tennessee Libraries. Check the catalog for individual titles.

Other Sources of Property Data

  • Beilstein Handbook of Organic Chemistry (UT only)
  • Print available in the Chemistry Reading Room, Buehler 653. An immense database containing critically evaluated information on organic substances and reactions, including chemical, physical, and biological properties published since 1779. Requires downloading client software.

  • ChemFinder
  • Working with a master list of over 75,000 substances, ChemFinder is a database which compiles chemical information from over 350 chemistry-related web sites. Search by chemical name, formula, molecular weight, or CAS Registry Number. You can also view 3D structures with a plugin.

  • Composite Index for CRC Handbooks
    QD65.C74 1991, Hodges Reference
  • Helps locate data contained in 317 CRC Press publications.

  • Gmelin Handbook of Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry
  • Located in the Chemistry Reading Room, Buehler 653. Provides property information on inorganic and organometallic substances.

  • Landolt-Bornstein
    QC61.L3, Hodges Reference
  • A collection of critically assessed data from the fields of physics, physical chemistry, geophysics, astronomy, and biophysics. Although we do not have online access or a current subscription, you can still browse the Table of Contents. Contact the Reference Department to determine what volumes we have.

  • MatWeb
  • Provides data on over 24,000 materials including metals, plastics, ceramics, and composites. The information comes primarily from data sheets and spec sheets supplied by manufacturers and distributors. Search by material type, trade name, manufacturer, property, or metal composition.

  • Merck Index
    RS356.M524, Hodges Reference Desk
  • A one-volume encyclopedia of chemicals, drugs and biologicals. Contains basic property data such as molecular weight, physical and toxicity data, chemical structures, and commercial uses.

  • Particle Data Group
  • An international collaboration that reviews the field of particle physics and compiles and analyzes data on particle properties.

  • Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook
    TP151.C52, Hodges Reference Desk

  • SOLV-DB (National Center for Manufacturing Sciences)
  • A searchable database of solvent information such as health and safety considerations, chemical and physical data, regulatory responsibilities, and environmental fate data.

  • Table of the Nuclides (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute)

  • ThermoDex (University of Texas at Austin)
  • More of a "finding aid", this database will provide a list of handbooks, both print and web, which may contain a specified thermodynamic property. Use the catalog to locate the print sources in UT Libraries.

  • U.S. Nuclear Data Program
  • Includes nuclear structure and nuclear reaction data, decay properties of nuclei, nuclear masses, and astrophysical reaction rates.

  • WebElements
  • A periodic table with atomic, elemental and nuclear properties.
