Arranged by property name, these guides list print and electronic resources containing specific properties. The lists do not necessarily reflect the holdings and location at the University of Tennessee Libraries. Check the catalog for individual titles.

Other Sources of Property Data

  • Beilstein Handbook of Organic Chemistry (UTK only)
  • An immense database containing critically evaluated information on organic substances and reactions, including chemical, physical, and biological properties published since 1779. Requires downloading client software.

  • Gmelin Handbook of Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry (UTK only)
  • Provides property information on inorganic and organometallic substances. Requires downloading client software.

  • Landolt-Bornstein
    QC61.L3, Hodges Reference
    Substance/Property Index
  • A collection of critically assessed data from the fields of physics, physical chemistry, geophysics, astronomy, and biophysics. Older volumes are available in print in Hodges Reference, but some volumes are available online through SpringerLink.

  • MatWeb
  • Provides materials property information primarily from data sheets and spec sheets supplied by manufacturers and distributors.

  • Merck Index
    RS356.M524, Hodges Reference
  • A one-volume encyclopedia of chemicals, drugs and biologicals. Contains basic property data such as molecular weight, physical and toxicity data, chemical structures, and commercial uses.

  • National Nuclear Data Center

  • Particle Data Group
  • An international collaboration that reviews the field of particle physics and compiles and analyzes data on particle properties.

  • Perry's Chemical Engineers' Handbook
  • Physical properties for over 2,300 organic and inorganic substances.

  • SOLV-DB (National Center for Manufacturing Sciences)
  • A searchable database of solvent information such as health and safety considerations, chemical and physical data, regulatory responsibilities, and environmental fate data.

  • Spectra

  • Table of the Nuclides (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute)

  • ThermoDex (University of Texas at Austin)
  • More of a "finding aid", this database will provide a list of handbooks, both print and web, which may contain a specified thermodynamic property. Use the UT Libraries' catalog or the "Find in a Library" feature in ThermoDex to locate the handbook.

  • WebElements
  • A periodic table with atomic, elemental and nuclear properties.

  • Other Internet Sources for Physical Property Information
