Mission Statement
"CHILDREN WHO HAVE BOOKS LEARN TO READ"
The University of Tennessee Center for Children's and
Young Adult Literature embraces the premise that literature is essential
in the lives of young people, to facilitate their acquisition of reading
ability, and to develop a love of literacy and an understanding and
appreciation of its potential power in their lives. Guided by that belief,
it is the mission of the Center to celebrate and promote literature and
encourage its use in the lives of all children and young adults in East
Tennessee through outreach to their current and future teachers, librarians,
parents and other caregivers.
