Mary-Lou Rekemeyer Pardue received her M.S. in radiation biology from the University of Tennessee in 1959. Since completing her Ph.D. at Yale, she has taught at MIT, where she is the Boris Magasanik Professor of Biology. Her work on genetic, biochemical, and cytological studies of structural elements of chromosomes, with emphasis on telomore, heterochromatin, and transposable elements, has brought her international recognition. A recipient of the Esther Langer Award, she received an honorary degree from Bard College and has served as President of the Genetics Society of America and President of the American Society for Cell Biology. Dr. Pardue is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
