Library Services for Independent Study students

If you plan to visit UT Libraries, you can find information for visitors on this website: http://www.lib.utk.edu/aboutlibs/visitor.htm
Find Books

Use UT Libraries' catalog (http://www.lib.utk.edu/catalog) to look for books.

Read our policies about checking out books: Borrowing policies - (Scroll down to "Borrowing Privileges for:") You may also use the interlibrary loan services of your local public library.

WorldCat is a free resource that contains materials from libraries around the world. This will help you identify items that your public library can then help you locate.

Find Articles
You are welcome to use UT Libraries' databases if you are in the building. You can stop at the circulation desk (2nd floor, Hodges Library), present a photo ID, and receive a temporary ID that lets us log you on to a machine downstairs in the Reference room (1st floor, Hodges Library). This card is good for one year.

All citizens of the state of Tennessee have access to the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) databases, a fabulous set of resources. You can contact your public library to receive a password. These databases are available through the Tennessee State Library and Archives
