Homeland Security Digital Library

The Homeland Security Digital Library (HSDL) is a new collection to which our campus has recently been granted access. Created and maintained by the Naval Postgraduate School's Dudley Knox Library, the HSDL provides "the latest research, guidance, & authoritative documents on U.S. national security and homeland defense via a well-organized, easily accessible, web-based, 24/7 digital library."

The HSDL covers a broad range of topics including: emergency management, public health, freedom of information, defense policy and doctrine, terrorism, immigration, chemical industry and hazardous substances, infrastructure protection, civil liberties-just to name a few.

Information available from the HSDL originates from a wide variety of resources such as "federal, state and local agencies, leading national and international organizations, think tanks, universities and more." Documents in this extensive collection include "U.S. policy documents, key federal publications, state and municipal documents, links to important sites, professional journal articles, multimedia materials, theses, gray literature, Homeland Security related news, a list of upcoming Homeland Security related conferences and events, and links to key agencies & organizations."

The University Libraries would like to thank the Naval Postgraduate School, Mr. David Landguth (University of Tennessee/Oak Ridge National Laboratory Center for Homeland Security and Counterproliferation), Dr. Susan Speraw (UT College of Nursing), and Ms. Bernadette Smith (USA Contractor MPSC) for their roles in making this important digital collection available.

The HSDL is accessible via the Libraries' databases/indexes page. Type the word, homeland, into the search box provided. Also, the HSDL link is available on selected databases-by-subject pages such as that for the health sciences.

For more information please contact Lana S. Dixon, Health Sciences Reference Librarian.
