The Open Library Environment Project
Based on a suggestion found elsewhere in this blog, I was checking out Richard Akerman's blog, Science Library Pad. He had a neat update about the Open Library Environment (OLE) Project which "will convene the academic library community in the design of an Open Library Management System built on Service Oriented Architecture." Basically it looks like an initiative to allow open source library systems to interact. I haven't had much experience with this sort of project, but I know that movements towards user-initiated systems are popular, and for good reason! I think it's great when users have a hand in the design of the tools they will be using. I confess, I'm new to a lot of this, but it is exciting to learn about these new projects and to be given a chance to participate.
