Ann Viera Nominated for Prestigious Award

Ann Viera, Veterinary Medicine Librarian, was nominated by the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Awards and Library Committees for the 2006 New York Times Academic Librarian of the Year Award. The highly competitive program honors librarians who have provided outstanding public service and the committees wanted to express their gratitude for the professional expertise and personal attention that are hallmarks of Viera’s work. Viera has served the students and faculty of the CVM for almost twenty years as a member of the Pendergrass Library team and we are proud that she was recognized for her diligent and creative work.

Among the accolades in the nomination were these sample comments from the faculty:

“I started a course blog this year thanks to Ann telling me about ‘academic blogging’ and pointing me to the resources that enabled me to do it myself. The idea never would’ve occurred to me without her suggestion.”

“If I could sum up in one sentence, it would be that ‘she always goes the extra mile.'”

“Ann Viera is the most helpful librarian in my 30 years of academic experiences. She is
pro-active, professional, reasonable, practical, and friendly in providing her services to
our research needs for scientific information. She is a very valuable member in our
college.”

“She has been extremely responsive and efficient whenever I have needed help tracking down a reference or help using any of the library’s resources. I think Ann is fabulous, and she is clearly passionate about her job.”
