Newfound Press Copyright Information

Newfound Press is a digital imprint of the University of Tennessee Libraries. Its publications are available for non-commercial and educational uses, such as research, teaching, and private study. The Libraries encourages “fair use” of its published materials as defined in current U.S. Copyright Law. A copyright statement that accompanies each publication describes ownership and conditions for reproduction, including a preferred form of citation. Generally, Newfound Press publications may be printed and downloaded without prior permission as long as the original work is credited. For all other uses contact the chair of the Editorial Board.

Newfound Press requires authors and editors to sign a permissions form that grants the University Libraries non-exclusive rights to publish the content in perpetuity. Publication includes digitization and distribution in text and multimedia formats; use of search software to provide and enhance access; and maintenance and preservation of the content.

By granting the University Libraries non-exclusive rights, Newfound Press authors have the flexibility to grant additional permissions for publication or dissemination. Copyright Information from UT Libraries provides details about author rights, responsibilities, and options.

Creative Commons licenses offer a flexible range of protections and freedoms. Authors may choose among Creative Commons Licenses that range from the most restrictive to the most accomodating. Use of Creative Commons enables authors, scientists, artists, and educators to keep their copyright, but allows people to copy and distribute the work on specified conditions. Newfound Press helps authors select and apply Creative Commons license terms to their publications.
