IMAP (Independent Media Arts Preservation, Inc.) is pleased to announce the
launch of its newly-reconstituted website [www.imappreserve.org] containing comprehensive information about
media preservation resources and best practices.
The new IMAP web site functions as a hub - a centralized location that
outlines key issues in the field of independent media arts preservation and
provides specific information and resources for video, audio and digital
media preservation. Additionally, the site forefronts the work of IMAP: its
mission, flagship projects (such as the Cataloging Project), services, and
initiatives.
The site will be used by archivists, artists, broadcasters, choreographers,
composers, conservators, curators, distributors, filmmakers, librarians,
media-makers, musicians, producers, registrars, scholars and other
caretakers of media collections.
The new IMAP web site is a valuable first stop for media preservation,
providing an overview of the field and directing users to resources they
need. The site offers an intuitive and easy-to-use interface combined with
a great depth of content - allowing visitors to quickly and easily access
the content they need. For those new to media preservation, the section
titled Preservation 101 provides a solid summary of preservation rationales
and processes for video, audio, digital media and film. For those wishing
to obtain a copy of IMAP's Cataloging Template, or take the on-line
tutorial, the Cataloging Project section offers a full complement of
services, while the Information Resources section has extensive information
on media preservation, including: Glossaries, Internet Resources, Services,
Preservation Organizations, Funders, Educational Organizations, and a
Bibliography.
The IMAP web site also provides complete and up-to-date information on the
mission, goals, projects, programs, and services of IMAP, as well as
archival materials from past IMAP events, conferences and workshops.
Finally, the site invites users to become involved with IMAP and its network
of organizations and individuals dedicated to the preservation of
independent media.
The IMAP website was supported by funding from the Rockefeller Foundation,
the Getty Grant Program, the New York State Council on the Arts and the
National Endowment for the Arts.
