Video/Audio Reserve Service

This service point for this service is the Circulation/Media/Reserves desk at the Melrose Entrance

This service allows Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants to place personal copies of their own videos and audios on reserve for their students to come and view in Hodges Library.

Reserve items are available for in-house use only and may not be taken out of the building. The items are checked out to users for 3 hours. To leave the Library, items will need to be taken off reserve, and that is done only by the original faculty member who brought the item in. Exceptions are made if Faculty leave the University without giving us notification as to where their items are to be sent.

Placing Video/Audio materials on Reserve

Items must be in a format supported by Hodges Library

  • DVD
  • VHS
  • CD
  • Audio Cassette

Faculty, wishing to place personal or departmental materials on reserve, are required to fill out a Media Services Reserve Form at the Circulation/Media/Reserves service desk at the Library's Melrose entrance. This form must be filled out completely. Instructors must provide full name, campus address, phone number, E-mail address, department, and most importantly course number. This will allow the instructor’s students, as well as our staff, to find the correct materials for the correct course. All non-library items placed on Reserve have a green dot attached with the Faculty member’s name on it. Items are filed on the reserve shelf alphabetically by the Faculty member’s name. The staff also will add a barcode so that the item will show up on the Library's Course Reserve database.

When an item is removed from Reserve, a dated notation is made on the reserve sheet, and the sheet will remain in the book until the end of the semester for reference purposes and to be available to easily add any new videos to be placed on reserve for this class during the current semester.

This Reserve databasesite can be found by first accessing “Catalog,” at the Libraries Home Page, http://www.lib.utk.edu, and then clicking on "Course Reserves".

All Video and Audio materials will be removed from Reserve at the end of each semester. Faculty members are expected to pick up their items or the Library can send the materials via Campus Mail to the campus address they have provided on their Media Services Reserve Form.

NOTICE

While the Library makes every effort to preserve and protect materials placed on Reserve, Faculty need to understand that they place their items with the Library at their own risk. This is particularly of note if the materials are of a unique nature.
