Media Center Reserve Services
This service allows Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants to place library copies or personal copies of their own videos on reserve for their students to come and view in the Media Center.
Reserve items are available for in-house use only. The faculty member has the option of allowing the items to go to the hands-on players or restricting play to a signal sent from the service counter to the carrels. They may not be checked out. To leave the department, items will need to be taken off reserve, and that is done only by the original faculty member who brought the item in. Exceptions are made if Faculty leave the University without giving us notification as to where their items are to be sent. They are usually mailed back to the patrons department, if they are agreeable.
To be placed on Reserve, items must be in a format supported by the department and packaged in a manner compatible with MC’s storage facilities. Formats supported are:
Unless the Media Center has been instructed otherwise, all reserve items will be removed from Media Center Reservers at the end of each semester. Faculty members are expected to either pick up their items or we can send materials, via campus mail, to the address that they have provided when they placed the item on Reserve.
Faculty Owned Materials
Faculty, wishing to place personal or departmental materials on reserve, are required to fill out a Media Center Reserve Form. This form must be filled out completely. Instructors must provide full name, campus address, phone number, E-mail address, department, and most importantly course number. This will allow the instructor’s students, as well as our staff, to find the correct materials for the correct course. All non-library items placed on Reserve have a green dot attached with the Faculty member’s name on it. . Items are filed on the reserve shelf or in the DVD room alphabetically by the Faculty member’s name. The staff also will add a barcode so that the item will show up on the Library's Course Reserve database.
When an item is removed from Reserve, a dated notation is made on the reserve sheet, and the sheet will remain in the book until the end of the semester for reference purposes and to be available to easily add any new videos to be placed on reserve for this class during the current semester.
This Reserve databasesite can be found by first accessing “Catalog,” at the Libraries Home Page, http://www.lib.utk.edu, and then clicking on "Course Reserves"
Media Center Materials on Reserve
Materials that are part of the Media Center’s collection may also be placed on reserve at the request of a Faculty member. While items can be reserved for the whole semester, we encouraged Faculty members to have a specific time frame in mind as items will be considered “non-circulating” until the duration date has expired. After this date the item will be removed from reserve and can be checked out as usual by other Faculty members. While these items are reserved they will appear under the Instructors name in the Course Reserve database.
NOTICE
While the Media Center makes every effort to preserve and protect materials placed on Reserve, Faculty need to understand that they place their items with the department at their own risk. This is particularly of note if the materials are of a unique nature.
