Documentaries in the Library Fall 2007

The University Libraries invites the university and local communities learn more about the Highlander Research and Education Center as it celebrates its 75th anniversary. All programs in the Documentaries in Library series will be on Tuesday evenings at the Hodges Library's Lindsay Young Auditorium from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The programs feature a documentary film showing and discussion lead by filmmakers, Highlander activists, and UT faculty.

As the Highlander Center's website explains, "The Highlander Center was founded in 1932 to serve as an adult education center for community workers involved in social and economic justice movements. The goal of Highlander was and is to provide education and support to poor and working people fighting economic injustice, poverty, prejudice, and environmental destruction." Although the Highlander Center works on the international stage, it has remained in Tennessee since its founding and is now located near Knoxville in Jefferson County.
