Video Circulation Policy

Policy
To allow use of the Media Center video collection for instruction outside the confines of the library, the Media Center will circulate titles to faculty and graduate students for three days. Faculty members must present their ID to check-out videos or may have a GTA or TA pick up materials with a proxy card. Proxy cards may be obtained through the circulation department.

  • Feature films are not available for out-of-building circulation except to faculty.
  • Titles scheduled for group viewing or placed on reserve status are not available for circulation.
  • There is a maximum of three items to any borrower at one time.
  • Circulation is for 72 hours and materials are not routinely renewable.
  • The fine for graduate students returning items late is 25¢ per hour.
  • Titles may be reserved in advance to ensure availability.

Checkout and Return Procedure:

  • Check out video materials at the Media Center Service Desk using a valid UT ID card.
  • Faculty who want to use Library Express to check out and deliver Media Center materials must first reserve the materials in the Media Center for the dates requested. (Call (974-4473 or email request to mediacenter@utk.edu). After receiving approval, contact Library Express as normal.
  • Return borrowed items to the Media Center. Do not return materials at Circulation or in the library book drops.

CD-ROM Circulation Policy

Policy
CD-ROMs are now shelved in The Studio within the Media Center.

To allow faculty to better use the CD-ROM titles, selected titles and their supporting documentation may circulate for a period of two weeks. Circulation requires a valid UT faculty ID, and titles are subject to recall. Restrictions apply, and not all CD-ROM titles are eligible for out-of-building use.

The Media Center offers no technical support for circulated titles and assumes no responsibility for problems resulting from the loading of circulated software onto personal computers.

Checkout and Return Procedure:

  • Check the catalog to determine if the title circulates and is currently checked in.
  • Ask for the CD-ROM at the reservation desk in The Studio area. Please provide its call number to the desk attendant.
  • Take the CD-ROM and accompanying materials to Circulation for check out. It is possible to use the self-check units there as well.
  • Return the CD-ROMs to The Studio reservation desk, not to Hodges Circulation

Notice
Borrowers should be aware that CD-ROM packages frequently load interfaces, operating programs and fonts onto users computers as part of the installation process. These files will remain unless removed either with and uninstall program or manually. In addition, Windows titles frequently install dlls (data link libraries) which may overwrite existing files and impact other programs.
