Position: Professional Library Assistant (Integrated User Services Manager)

The University of Tennessee (UT) Libraries seeks an energetic, flexible, and service-oriented individual to join the Integrated User Services team as the Integrated User Services Manager. This department provides innovative undergraduate student programming, classroom support, and leadership of emerging technologies for Commons and Research Services librarians and instructional support for general education and student success.

Position Description:
This is a management position in Integrated User Services. This individual will contribute to overall planning and teamwork necessary to establish and accomplish the Integrated User Services Department’s mission and goals.

This person must make critical decisions that impact operations in a high traffic area of the University Libraries and must be professional and diplomatic in the oversight of policy interpretation and decision-making. The individual must work effectively with UT Campus police, the Office of Information Technology and UT faculty, staff, students and the public.

This individual will be responsible for service operations in the delivery of reserves, circulation, and media. They must assure that best practices in service delivery are consistently performed. This includes a high level of decision making related to implementation and interpretation of library policies and procedures, including financial transactions. The person in this position will be accountable for insuring that every staff and student employed under their supervision perform these procedures and carry out policies in a standard and consistent manner.

The person in this position hires, supervises, evaluates and organizes staff and student employees and oversees training for job tasks that require a wide range of expertise related to customer service. As an exempt employee, the incumbent must be able to come in on all shifts to address problems and ensure adequate staffing.

The person must work independently and with high level of autonomy that does not require close supervision or direction.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree. Strong commitment to public service in a student-centered learning environment. Three years supervisory experience.  Five years progressively responsible library experience.  Experience working with the public in an information-intensive environment.  Ability to balance multiple tasks and set priorities without close supervision. Ability to work in a changing environment and under pressure. Must be able to work all shifts to ensure adequate staffing and solve problems.

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment accompanied by a creative, flexible, and problem-solving attitude. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Knowledge of window-based computing and MS Office applications. Good negotiation/mediation skills with the public.

Preferred Qualifications:
Web-authoring skills. Proficiency with search strategies used in bibliographic databases, online catalogs, and the Internet. Experience speaking to groups, conducting tours, making presentations.
