Life of the Mind - Freshman Reading Program
The University of Tennessee Libraries are pleased to provide information resources and assistance to all participants in the 2012 Life of the Mind reading program. As the primary research library in Tennessee, take time to get acquainted with us and the services we offer.
Begin now by exploring our web pages and when you arrive on campus, visit us. Browse our collection of books, magazines, and videos. Be sure to see our Commons (currently under renovation), located on the second floor of Hodges Library, with over 150 computers, laptops available for checkout, group study space, and more.
As you read this year's book selection, The Accidental Asian, you are not just reading a book, you are starting your UT career. If you have questions about the book, author Eric Liu, the Life of the Mind program, or any other topic, University of Tennessee librarians can help.
For all of the advances in digital technology, librarians are still the ultimate search engine. There are several ways you can reach us over the summer (and on campus after you arrive) from wherever you are.
Discover new worlds of information at UT Libraries.
Before You Arrive On Campus
Search the Libraries Catalog to find our books, video and audio materials, maps, and more. Browse our electronic resources, which include indexes of periodical articles, full-text electronic journals, e-books, and other specialized research materials.
(Please note, however, that you will not be able to access electronic resources until you arrive on campus and receive your UT Net ID and password.)
After You Arrive in August
The University will be hosting events and activities featuring Eric Liu's The Accidental Asian during Welcome Week and throughout the Fall Semester. One such activity is a small discussion group conversation about the book led by a UT faculty member.
The University Libraries will also have exhibits and events related to the Life of the Mind book program. As you have additional Life of the Mind activities and assignments through the year to come, you will find many more books and articles on the themes found in The Accidental Asian by exploring the University Libraries collections. Come in and visit us!
