Borrower Cards

Integrated User Services

UT System

Students, faculty, and staff within the University of Tennessee system (UT Chattanooga, UT Martin, UT Memphis, and UT institutes) may check out books, periodicals, and media using their valid university IDs. Privileges and loan periods for UT System affiliates are the same as those for UT Knoxville.

Affiliate Cards

Affiliate cards are available to family of UT faculty and staff. Affiliate cards are valid for 1 year and may be renewed by the sponsor.

Cost: No cost
How to obtain: Come to the 2nd floor circulation desk at Hodges Library with the faculty or staff sponsor and fill out an application. Proof of identity is required. The faculty or staff member must present a valid UT ID card and the sponsored family member must provide some type of photographic ID such as a driver's license.
Fines: All cardholders are responsible for fines or charges accrued. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for outstanding fines of $5.00 or more.

 Privileges with card

The following services/privileges are granted to holders of affiliate cards:
        • Check out books from Hodges, Music, Map, and Ag-Vet Med Libraries
        • A total of ten books may be charged against the card at any one time

The following services/privileges are not granted to holders of affiliate cards:
        • Check out of journals/periodicals
        • Check out of equipment
        • Recall of books; although holds are available
        • Use of computer labs, Library Express, or Interlibrary Loan
        • Remote (off-campus) access to databases and electronic resources

Courtesy Cards

Courtesy cards are available to anyone sponsored by a UTK Department Head, UT Library Administration, or a college/university with which we have a reciprocal agreement.

Cost: No cost
How to obtain: Bring a photo ID to the Hodges Library circulation deskl on the 2nd floor along with a signed responsibility form from the sponsoring College or UTK Department.
Fines: All cardholders are responsible for fines or charges accrued. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for outstanding fines of $5.00 or more.

 Privileges with card

The following services/privileges are granted to holders of courtesy cards:
        • Check out books from Hodges, Music, Map, and Ag-Vet Med Libraries
        • A total of ten books may be charged against the card at any one time

The following services/privileges are not granted to holders of courtesy cards:
        • Check out of journals/periodicals
        • Check out of equipment
        • Recall of books; although holds are available
        • Use of computer labs, Library Express, or Interlibrary Loan
        • Remote (off-campus) access to databases and electronic resources

Proxy Cards

Proxy cards are available to UT Faculty and allow graduate assistants (or other designated individuals) to check out books for the faculty member. The faculty member is responsible for all materials checked out on his/her proxy card(s). Proxy cards are issued with expiration dates of up to three years from the date of issue. Lost or stolen proxy cards should be reported to the Circulation Department as soon as possible.

Cost: No cost
How to obtain: UT Faculty may obtain up to three proxy cards. the faculty member may appear in person at the 2nd floor Circulation desk or the Agricultural & Veterinary Medicine Library desk, with his/her UT ID to obtain a proxy card or fill out the online application form to obtain a proxy card.
Fines: All cardholders are responsible for fines or charges accrued. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for outstanding fines of $5.00 or more.

Subscriber Cards

Non-affiliates of the University of Tennessee may purchase subscriber cards in order to check out books from Hodges, Music, Map, and Ag-Vet Med Libraries.

Cost: $100 per year payable by credit card or check. Expires one calendar year from the date of purchase.
Issued to: Individuals (no company cards) and is not transferable to another individual.
How to obtain: Bring a photo ID to the Hodges Library circulation desk on the 2nd floor to fill out an application.
Fines: All cardholders are responsible for fines or charges accrued. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for outstanding fines of $5.00 or more.

 Privileges with card

The following services/privileges are granted to holders of subscriber cards:
        • Check out books from Hodges, Music, Map, and Ag-Vet Med Libraries
        • A total of ten books may be charged against the card at any one time

The following services/privileges are not granted to holders of subscriber cards:
        • Check out of journals/periodicals
        • Check out of equipment
        • Recall of books; although holds are available
        • Use of computer labs, Library Express, or Interlibrary Loan
        • Remote (off-campus) access to databases and electronic resources

TBR Cards

Anyone who attends a TBR / TALC College or University may obtain a TBR Card.

Cost: No cost
How to obtain: The patron should go to their college library to obtain the card. Bring the TBR/TALC card and a photo ID to the second floor circulation desk at Hodges Library to be registered in our system.
Fines: All cardholders are responsible for fines or charges accrued. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for outstanding fines of $5.00 or more.
