Government publications can provide valuable information for your research paper. These are publications by the U.S. and Tennessee State Government agencies as well as selected documents that are produced by foreign governments. Because the UT Library has participated in the Federal Depository Library System since 1907, the collection contains a vast amount of historical information about the history of the country as seen through the eyes of the government. This can be an excellent place to look for primary source material.

For Example:

If you are writing a research paper on the making of the first atomic bomb, the government documents written during the 1930s and 1940s that have been declassified would be a valuable addition to your paper and, perhaps, provide a counterpoint to non-governmental books and articles written about that period in time.
