Books can provide a lot of information for your paper. As we know from the Information Timeline, it takes longer to publish books than many other materials. This gives books the opportunity to offer more in-depth information. The older the topic selected for a research paper, the more useful books may be. Books can also be useful when searching a broader topic.

For Example:

If you are doing a research paper on how modern evolutionary theory came about, you might consult Darwinism Evloving: Systems dynamics and the genealogy of natural selection, which traces the roots of evolution to the present date.

If you have any trouble finding books on your topic, check out this in-depth Flash tutorial on Finding Books.
