Using Built-in Subject Terms

The Libraries’ Catalog as well as many databases has a built-in subject term index that you can use to improve your searching.

  • Subject Terms in the Libraries' Catalog

In the Libraries’ Catalog, if you find a book that works well for your research topic, you can view the full record of the book to see what subject categories have been assigned to it.

  • Subject Terms in Databases

Though not all databases will look the same, the majority of them will offer you subject term or keywords when looking at the full record for an article.
