Introduction

Doing research involves searching for information on your topic. This search can involve a number of steps depending on the type of information you need, the type of resource you are looking for, and your topic. Developing a search strategy can make your research easier and this module will help guide you through the steps:

  • Identifying search terms
  • Using Boolean operators to broaden or narrow your search
  • Using wildcard and truncation symbols
  • Using built-in subject terms
  • Using Thesauri and other indexes
  • Using Bibliographies

Following these search strategies and techniques will improve your searches and also limit the results you get so that you only have to go through those that are most relevant to your research.
