Defining Information

What is information?

  • A message which is received and understood
  • A collection of facts from which conclusions may be drawn
  • Knowledge acquired through study, experience or instruction

Information is conveyed in many different formats including books, magazines, newspapers, television, web sites, blogs, interviews, conversations, recordings, etc.

The credibility of the information is often important; therefore the format or source of the information may also be important.

Tools used to find information are different depending on the format of information needed. The most common tools used to find information include a library catalog, databases and internet search engines.
