  • Encyclopedia of Rhetoric
  • Ref. PN172.E52 2001 - Essays on mostly theoretical concepts, from all time periods and places, with annotated bibliographies. Includes essays on the rhetoric of individual groups (ex. "Arab Rhetoric").

  • A Handlist of Rhetorical Terms
  • Ref. PE1445.A2L3 1991 - An alphabetical list of terms, with many examples, followed by a long essay on "The Divisions of Rhetoric", "The Terms by Type," and dates of important works.

  • International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Ref. H41.I58 2001 - In Vol. 20, see the articles "Rhetoric" and "Rhetorical Analysis," and their bibliographies.

  • Communication & Mass Media Complete
  • In the Thesaurus, type Rhetoric under "Browse for," then click on the word Rhetoric to see the list of narrower and related terms. Choose as many as you need or click on the box under "Explode" to include all narrower terms. Then click on "Add" and finally, "Search."

  • Essay & General Literature Index
  • Click on the Subjects button at the top, then type in Rhetoric to see a list of more specific terms. Select as many as you need before clicking on Search. Results are books and book chapters only; check the book title (NOT chapter title) in the UT Library Catalog to see if we own the item.

  • Humanities Abstracts
  • Click on Index at the top and change the drop-down box to "Subject (SU)," then type Rhetoric. Choose all the terms you need from the listing, then click on "Search Marked."

  • Literature Online (LION)
  • Click on "Criticism & Reference" and type Rhetoric in the "Author/Subject(s)" box. Only those citations preceded by a page or camera icon link to electronic full text, but other sources may be available in print through the UT Online Catalog.

  • LLBA (Linguistics, Language and Behavior Abstracts)
  • Click on Advanced Search and type Rhetoric; for best results, change the drop-down box to "Descriptors" (subjects). You may limit the "Subject Area" to "Arts & Humanities" or "Social Sciences" and limit by date as well. Results include web sites.

  • MLA International Bibliography
  • Search the same as in Communications & Mass Media Complete (above), but results are limited to language and literature journals and books.
