Excess Annual Leave Hours

At the end of each calendar year, faculty and staff should check their balance of annual leave hours to prevent an excess balance on December 31. The maximum number or hours an employee is permitted to carry forward to the next calendar year is determined by their accrual rate.

Employees who accrue:

  • 8 hours per month may carry forward 240 hours (30 days)
  • 12 hours per month may carry forward 288 hours (36 days)
  • 14 hours per month may carry forward 312 hours (39 days)
  • 16 hours per month may carry forward 336 hours (42 days)

Excess annual leave hours as of December 31 are automatically transferred to the employee's sick leave balance.
