GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT
THE STUDIO
(Quarter-time assistantship)

The Studio, UT Libraries’ premiere multimedia teaching and learning space, is looking to fill a Quarter Time (10hrs/week) graduate assistantship. Graduate Assistants in the Studio provide creative and technical expertise in support of Studio operations and instructional services. They serve as consultants to students, faculty, and staff who are creating multimedia projects. They are expected to have a working and creative knowledge of media software used in The Studio.

Position Description
Typical work includes providing assistance to users working in The Studio, preparing tutorials or guides, and supporting Studio instructional services (providing one-on-one equipment certifications, teaching Studio short courses, course design, design of promotional materials, etc.) In addition, there is the opportunity to work on a wide variety of special projects that make use of new media technologies. Graduate Assistants will be expected to work with the Studio community in planning, developing, completing and distributing digital projects.

Qualifications
Effective communication and interpersonal skills in individual and group settings; experience in teaching and instruction; significant experience with multimedia software applications on MAC OS X, especially graphics design and digital video editing; ability to manage time and projects, and to work effectively both in a team environment and independently; proficient in and/or working knowledge of web graphics and web design (HTML/CSS/RSS); enthusiasm for learning new technologies. Knowledge of open source web technologies helpful (PHP/MySQL).

Preference is given to graduate students in these academic programs:

  • School of Information Sciences
  • School of Advertising and Public Relations
  • School of Journalism and Electronic Media
  • Instructional Technology, Curriculum & Instruction (College of Education)
  • School of Art (Media Arts, Graphics Design)

Term of Appointment
12-month appointments at 10 hours per a week, July 1 – June 30.

Salary
Annual stipend of $8,118.66 plus tuition waiver for each term during the appointment period.
