The Research & Scholarly Services Department seeks 2-3 students in the School of Information Sciences to work at the Research Assistance Desk in the Commons of Hodges Library for Fall Semester 2013. For individuals interested in academic librarianship, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire reference experience and to develop public service skills.
Responsibilities:
The Graduate Student Library Assistant will provide the entire range of reference services at the Research Assistance Desk in Hodges Library, including instruction to patrons in the use of print and electronic resources. Must be available to work evening shifts during the week and Sunday afternoon or evening hours during the semester.
Qualifications:
Required: Strong public service ethic; excellent customer service skills; ability to work with and communicate with diverse patrons.
Preferred: Completion of SIS 530 (Information Access and Retrieval); Experience in using the library, including the catalog and databases, as well as sophisticated internet searching.
NOTE: The position of GSLA does not include a tuition waiver. The applicant may not hold a GA, GRA, or GTA appointment at the University of Tennessee. However, a GSLA may work as a Student Assistant for other departments.
Hourly Wage:
$12.00 per hour/at-will position
