Albert "Dutch" Roth Collection
Roth Collection This online archive presents the work of one of the most important photographers of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Some 1200 digital images depict pioneer life in the Greenbrier and Mt. Le Conte Sections, and document the early stages of the park’s creation.


Children's Defense Fund Collection
Children's Defense Fund In partnership with the Children's Defense Fund (CDF), this digital
collection highlights historical publications representing its 35-year
history as children's rights advocates. The pilot project provides
access to Children's Defense Fund publications and reports on federal
and state policies, laws, and pending legislation that directly benefit
or harm children. Each publication offers significant data on numerous
child statistics as well as information on child policy, including
health and mental health, child welfare, early childhood and youth
development, juvenile justice, and family income.


Early Images of Egypt
Early Images of Egypt A web presentation of early 20th century photographs related to ancient and modern Egypt. Researchers in this field can now search and retrieve images from a collection of fragile prints housed in the Frank H. McClung Museum at the University of Tennessee.

From Pi Beta Phi to Arrowmont - Great Smoky Mountains Regional Project
Arrowmont Collection A fully-searchable digital collection of letters, diaries, photographs, and short printed items that document the history of the Pi Beta Phi Settlement School and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.


Henry Pippitt Diaries
Henry Pippitt Diaries Three journals kept by Union soldier Henry Pippitt intimately describe life in Company G of the 104th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War.
The collection is unusual in that it covers the regiment's entire term of service, providing a history of the 104th Ohio as well as a glimpse into Henry Pippitt's life as a soldier. Pippitt's journals describe battles, troop movements, and camp conditions.
The diaries are the property of the Mohican Historical Society's Cleo Redd Fisher Museum in Loudonville, Ohio, which graciously allowed the UT Libraries to digitize the journals and make them available.

Southern Manuscript Sermons before 1800 For many years early sermonic literature has proven to the key to the understanding of the New England mind through the study of Puritan texts and, by extension and implication of scholarly emphases, the American mind. The bibliography is the first guide to the study of the manuscript sermon literature of the southern colonies/states of Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. No other tool exists.
This bibliographic database will help scholars to construct a fuller picture of the regional nature of the Southern mind before 1800 as well as its contribution to a national ethos, ultimately leading to a more balanced appraisal of American intellectual history by providing access to a considerable body of southern sermons to place alongside those of the northern and middle states for critical assessment.

University of Tennessee Catalogs Online An archive of the current and past undergraduate and graduate print catalogs, dating back to 1994. The Digital Library Initiatives will continue to update this collection on a yearly basis as a service to students and faculty.


University of Tennessee Herbarium
University of Tennessee Herbarium The Online Vascular Plant Herbarium provides a collection of Tennessee native plants that can be searched and browsed by family, genus, common name as well as location. Distribution maps and color photographs provide a greater understanding of the growth patterns of native species.


University of Tennessee Special Collections Online
University of Tennessee Special Collections Online Descriptions of many of the manuscript and university archives collections housed in Special Collections are online. These finding aids contain information on a collection's content and creator, as well as a list of the materials in the collection. Some individual items from Special Collections' manuscript collections have been digitized and are also online. Links to these items may be found in the finding aids.

William Cox Cochran Photograph Collection William Cox Cochran captured these 89 images of East Tennessee during August 12 thru 30, 1886. The photographs are of East Tennessee people and landmarks, mostly located in what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.


WPA Photographs of TVA Archaeological Projects
WPA Photographs of TVA Archaeological Projects The WPA collection presents an online selection from some 15000 archaeological photographs that document prehistoric sites along the Tennessee River Valley, prior to the flooding of the basin by the TVA dam construction.
