This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

A Celebration of honoring the first African-American undergraduate students and the rich legacy of African-American achievement campus-wide begins Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to participate in the commemorative march from the Torchbearer at Circle Park to Ayres Hall. A celebration will follow on the Hill with our special guest, Olympian and UT alumna Benita Fitzgerald-Mosley. Mark you calendars and plan to attend this special event.

UT Libraries Diversity Committee joins the 5th Annual Black Issues Conference with Making a Good Virtual First Impression: Using Google Sites to Get a Job, Saturday February 6, 2010

Using current technologies can instill excellent leadership practices that can bridge communication across all cultures. Using eportfolios is a cool strategy for students to establish their virtual presence. There are many options for presenting a portfolio to prospective employers; but creating your own web portfolio brings you online visibility and creates an avenue for sharing your body of work quickly and easily with the professional world. Google sites are a simple straightforward interface for creating a free professional web site. This program will provide a demonstration of the set-up of a free web site, teaching attendees how they can design a glowing custom portfolio. The attendees will learn skills that are transferable throughout the professional world as they continue to build their leadership presence.

  An inspirational tale about the relationship between two Sioux Indian brothers living on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation.

  A drama about explorer John Smith and the clash between Native Americans and English settlers in the 17th century.

The Lakota Sioux Dance Theatre opens the 2008-2009 Cultural Attractions Series presented by the Cultural Attractions Committee at the University of Tennessee. Founded in 1978 on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, Lakota Sioux Dance Theatre features some of the most highly acclaimed performers of the Sioux Nation. The troupe performs at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the UT Clarence Brown Theater.
