2008-2009 Goals

 

LIBRARY STAFF ENRICHMENT

Work with all facets of the library organization in intellectual pursuits for providing cultural awareness and programming.

  • Utilize 2.0 technologies and other feasible resources to offer alternative opportunities for communication and collaboration geared toward intercultural and diversity efforts.
  • Implement programming to support the Libraries administration in reaching its diversity mission.
  • Identify strategic partnerships with various library departments that are engaged in related intercultural activities (e.g., worked with The Studio to sponsor an international digital scholarship project for SLAs studying abroad).
  • Identify other innovative initiatives to connect and students and staff in international endeavors.
  • Strategically seek available funding to support library employees’ efforts to advance or host diversity or intercultural programming.
  • Create a new programming infrastructure for the Let’s Talk About It forums. Recruit lecturers from across the state who represent diverse backgrounds of learning and knowledge.

 

OUTREACH & COLLABORATION

Set a campus benchmark by joining together scholars, student leaders and campus administrators and created a new cultural sensation

  • Design timely cultural forums to encourage healthy dialogue and collaboration practices. For example, utilize website as a beacon to our organization, our campus, and the world.
  • Collaborate with other campus departments to sponsor a documentary film series.
  • Continue to support the efforts of our Ready for the World liaison, Jane Row.
  • Strategically cultivate and initiate relationships with related campus diversity entities to represent our library organization in practices and programming toward cultural enrichment.
  • Strengthen our efforts in providing disability services and information.
  • Continue to share our scholarship and best practices by participating in local and national conferences.
  • Initiated collaboration with other campus diversity coordinators and created a sustainable network that helps support the Committee’s efforts.

 

RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION

Continue to provide qualitative, scholarly works and information on UT Libraries’ successful recruitment and retention practices.

  • Continue to recruit and appoint campus faculty with diversity expertise on the Committee.
  • Act as consultants to collaborate and support other universities in their retention and recruitment efforts.
  • Support the Libraries’ recognition program for library student workers.
  • Continue to offer support to search committees in the recruitment in the diverse pool of applicants for positions at the UT Libraries.
