Goals 2002-2003

1. SERVICES: Create a welcoming environment.

• Educate library staff on diversity issues to better prepare them for working with an increasingly diverse population.
• Highlight diversity within the Libraries through displays, signs and other welcoming materials.

2. COLLECTIONS: Promote diversity in the Libraries' collections.

• Work with subject librarians to assess strengths and needs.
• Showcase collections and branch libraries.

3. STAFF ENRICHMENT: Provide a nourishing workplace for staff.

• Continue to provide opportunities for social interaction and communication.
• Encourage and promote sharing of information within and among departments.
• Promote educational benefits available at UT.
• Recognize and reward individuals for their service to the Libraries.

4. RECRUITMENT: Recruit and retain a diverse workforce.

• Assist in the administration of the proposed Diversity Library Residency Program.
• Explore collaborations/partnerships with UT's School of Information Sciences.

5. RESEARCH AND COMMUNICATION: Evaluate, collect and share information.

• Address issues identified in the Fall 2001 Climate Survey.
• Use LibQual survey results to improve quality of service in the Libraries.
• Use focus groups and other methods to expand our understanding of diversity issues.
• Provide continuing education for committee members.

6. PLANNING AND OUTREACH: Take a leadership role in creating collaborations within the University community, the profession and beyond.

• Seek external funding.
• Develop working relationships with campus groups and programs.
• Raise the visibility of the Libraries' diversity efforts through conference presentations, publications, etc.
• Create collaborative efforts with the community beyond campus.
