Disability Resource Guide, October 2004
In recognition of National Disability Awareness Month, a “Disability Resource Guide” was created for the “Diversity Resource Guides” page.

Diversity Resource Guides, October 2004
In recognition of Diversity Awareness Month, a “Diversity Resource Guides” page was created for the Committee’s website. Existing diversity-related subject guides were linked from this page and two new ones created: “Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Guide” and “Hispanic Heritage Resources.”

Hispanic Heritage Display, September 15 - October 15, 2004
In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, a display was created in the library’s Reference Department of selected resources on Hispanic Americans and their countries of origin.

Banned Books Week Display, September 2004
The Committee collaborated with UT’s Center for Children’s & Young Adult Literature on a display in the library for Banned Books Week. The display, entitled “Banned Books Week: Family Values vs. Intellectual Freedom,” included information on arguments for banning books as well as quotes supporting the freedom to read.

NCCJ Walk-A-Thon, June 6, 2004
The Committee sponsored a library team for the NCCJ (National Conference for Community and Justice) “Walk As One” walk-a-thon. The event brings together community groups to celebrate diversity and unifies the nine-county region to raise awareness of diversity-related issues.

International Food Festival, April 16, 2004
The Committee participated in the University’s International Food Festival and shared the Libraries’ diversity initiatives with the campus community.

2003

Banned Books Week, September 2003
The Committee promoted Banned Books Week at the Culture Corner and in the Reference Department with handouts and posters.

Welcome Back Program, August 2003
Committee members participated in the Libraries’ “Welcome Back” program for students and faculty.

“Life of the Mind” Display, August 2003
The Committee created a display about the University’s “Life of the Mind” reading program. The display highlighted library resources available to support the program.

Culture Corner Established, Fall 2003
The Committee established a Culture Corner on the first floor of the library to showcase titles from the Libraries' collection related to the many dimensions of diversity. A new topic/theme will be chosen each semester. The first Corner featured the “Life of the Mind” book selection, The Color of Water, and library resources that were related to the various themes of the book.

Africa Semester Display, February 2003
In support of UT's Africa Semester, the Diversity Committee created a display on first floor of Hodges Library. The display featured African artifacts as well as books from the Libraries' collection.
