Services for Persons with Disabilities
Special Notice: Several service points will be permenently closed at the end of the Spring semester. Services will be relocated as follows: Reference/Research Services will now be located in the Commons on the second floor. Ask for assistance at the Library & Information Referral Desk in the hall, next to the elevators. We will continue to provide access to the adaptive station, but it may be relocated. The University of Tennessee Libraries is committed to providing access to library materials and services for all users and will make every effort to accommodate requests from library users with disabilities. Students, faculty and staff registered through the Office of Disability Services are eligible for library services including the retrieval of materials from the stacks and assistance with photocopying.

Library
Retrieving Materials and Photocopying
Requests can be made three different ways:
- In person: Bring a list of items to be pulled or photocopied to the
Circulation Desk at the Melrose entrance on the second floor of Hodges
Library.
- By Telephone: Call Library Express at 974-0021
- Via e-mail: express@lib.utk.edu
UT Students, Faculty and Staff registered with the Office of Disabilities
Services receive photocopying and reformatting services at no charge.
Call numbers must be provided for all items. If you need help determining
call numbers, contact the Reference Department by e-mail at eref@utk.edu,
telephone 865-974-4171, or in person at the reference desk on the first
floor of Hodges Library.
Requests will be filled within 24 hours, Monday through Friday. On weekends
and evenings, please request assistance at the main Circulation desk
on the second floor of Hodges Library. Circulation personnel will retrieve
materials and assist with photocopying as staffing allows. All telephone
requests and lengthy lists will be completed during weekday operating
hours.
Undergraduates must pick up materials at the Circulation Desk located
on the second floor of Hodges Library. Faculty and graduate students
may have materials delivered to campus offices or electronically. As
always, staff in other departments and branch libraries will provide
point of use assistance in their respective locations whenever possible.
Research Assistance at Hodges Library
Research librarians are available to answer your questions and assist
in finding information sources. We can be contacted several ways:
- In person: Visit the Library & Information desk on the second
floor of Hodges Library or ask for assistance at any branch library

For in-depth research assistance, users are encouraged to make an appointment
with a subject
librarian and/or the Libraries' Disabilities Services Coordinator.
Parking
Six designated parking spaces are available in Staff Lot 12 located
at the Melrose entrance of Hodges Library. Additionally, there are four
designated parking spaces on Melrose Ave., which surround the Staff
Lot 12 parking lot. When entering from the Melrose entrance, you will
be on the second floor of Hodges Library.
Building Entrances
Both entrances are wheelchair accessible and have automatic doors:
The east entrance located at the corner of Volunteer Boulevard and Melrose
Avenue opens onto the ground floor. Proceed through the library gates,
and take the elevator immediately on your left to the first floor. Elevators
to all other floors are located down the large marble hallway at the
end of the galleria. If you need assistance, there is a staffed Circulation
Desk on the ground floor to your left.
The west or Melrose Avenue entrance of Hodges Library opens onto the
second floor. Elevators are down the hall and on your left. If you need
assistance, the main Circulation Desk is located just inside the entrance
on your left.
Physical Accessibility
Wheelchair accessible restrooms and water fountains are available on
all floors.
All rooms, including restrooms are braille labeled.
Services and Access at the Agriculture-Veterinary
Medicine Library
Services
The staff will retrieve materials from the stacks and assist in photocopying.
Checkout privileges may be negotiated.
Location
The Agriculture-Veterinary Medicine Library is located on the UT Agriculture
campus, just off Neyland Drive on the corner of River Drive and Joe
Johnson Drive. It is in Room A113 of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
building.
Parking
Two designated parking spaces are in front of the library. Directly
across from these parking spaces is a sloped access to the sidewalk.
Once on the sidewalk, proceed to the right and enter the doorway with
the sign Pendergrass Agriculture-Veterinary Medicine Library.
Building Entrances
The entrance is wheelchair accessible and has automatic doors.
Physical Accessibility
Wheelchair-accessible rest rooms are available.
A public telephone is available at desk height.
Services and Access at the Music Library
Services
The Music Library staff will provide additional services such as retrieving
materials from the stacks or from Reference shelves and assisting with
photocopying. Provisions will be made for exceptions to circulation
policies when necessary, such as taking materials to adaptive equipment
housed elsewhere.
Location
The George F. Devine Music Library is located on the third floor of
the east wing of the Music Building.
Parking
Two designated parking spaces are available at the back of the building.
Building Entrances
The Music Building has two entrances leading to lobbies on the ground
floor. Each lobby has glass doors both front and back. Use the lobby
on the east side of the building towards the Art and Architecture Building.
Once inside the glass doors, enter the double doors marked East Wing,
and take the elevator on the right to the third floor.
Physical Accessibility
The Music Library houses a substantial collection in relatively small
quarters. Except for the stacks aisles, there is room to maneuver a
wheelchair to listening carrels, the photocopier, the Circulation desk,
and the Reference room.
