Frequently Used Tools:

Ordering Films and Videos

Information produced by Carolyn Ammons, former Acquisitions Unit Head

  1. Provide the original source of the information, such as a brochure, if possible.

  2. Specify the desired format--16 mm, laserdisc, videocassette etc

  3. Specify the production. Many movies may have more than one version.

  4. If the title is in a foreign language, provide a translation if possible.

  5. Also if in foreign language, do you want sub-titles or not?

  6. Remember that OCLC record is a very good source of information.

  7. If the subject librarian specifies an ordering source (such as through the provision of a brochure), Acquisitions will use that source and will not check to see if the price is lower elsewhere. If an ordering source is not provided, then Acquisitions will do price checking if appropriate.

  8. If you call and verify a price, please so indicate and give a date for your phone call so that Acquisitions does not have to duplicate your efforts.

  9. If the requesting faculty member has a deadline, we can order material RUSH but we do pay more.

  10. If you are investigating 16mm films, check to see if reels and cans are included. Indicate availability on material request so orders for supplies can go out at the same time if needed.

  11. For other media, the best thing to do is send Acquisitions the flyer or brochure.
