Transfer of Library Materials from One Library to Another
Selection Criteria:
Reasons for the transfer of library materials may include available space, obsolescence, lack of use, duplication, and to improve research or access. Please consult Criteria for Storage and Withdrawal of Materials for more details.
Responsibility:
Transfers are initiated by appropriate Subject Librarians who may consult colleagues, library representatives, faculty, and TSDA (Cataloging) staff. Large-scale or multi-volume transfers should be discussed in advance with TSDA (Cataloging) to allow planning for appropriate work flow.
Procedures:
- Piece is identified for transfer by a Subject Librarian.
- The Subject Librarian completes a Transfer Form that is sent to TSDA (Cataloging). The piece should be sent with the form (multi-volume transfers need only one form) to TSDA, Hodges Library.
- TSDA (Cataloging) will communicate with appropriate library staff to complete the transfer. All transfers to Storage should be discussed with the TSDA (Cataloging) in advance.
- Technical Services & Digital Access will update library records and request any markings to the physical piece.
