About Library Representatives
Research CollectionsDuties of a Library Representative
A Library Representative provides liaison between an academic department and the University Libraries, particularly when the library needs recommendations about collections and services, or a department wants to apprise librarians about information needs, changing curricula, etc. Library Representatives meet at the library once each semester to hear from the Dean and to discuss current issues that affect access to information.
Although Subject Librarians work directly with all faculty and graduate students in the academic departments, they consult the Library Representative when there is a need to poll colleagues about various collection management issues, such as decision-making about subscribing to a new journal vs. dropping a current subscription, electing to receive e-only access to a journal, and identification of low-use titles from the collection that should be withdrawn or placed in Storage.
