Library Express

Library Express (LX) delivers books, bound periodicals and photocopies to UTK users at designated campus locations. LX also retrieves books from departmental offices and returns them to the library. There is no charge for these services.

LX also provides copies (paper or electronic) from books, journals, and other materials owned by UT Libraries. There is a charge for this service. See: Price List.

About the UT campus libraries Library Express serves

UTK Libraries: Materials from the following collections are deliverable: Hodges, Pendergrass (AgVetMed), Map, Music libraries and the Storage Stacks.

George F. DeVine Music Library: Faculty and eligible Graduate Students may request delivery of Music Library A/V materials including compact discs (faculty/grads/special undergrads), videocassettes, and DVDs (faculty only) from the Music Library. Cassette tapes may also be requested from the closed stack storage facility. All of these items may be checked out for 3 days. A maximum of three items are allowed out at one time.

Joel A. Katz Law Library: Library Express can circulate certain monographs and journal volumes from the Katz Law Library. After you have placed your order, Library Express staff will have a Law Library staff person determine whether or not an item(s) can be loanedt. If an item cannot be circulated, we will notify you. Please check their CATALOG for holdings and availability.

Preston Medical Library: Preston Medical Library's journals and serials do not circulate; however, articles from the holdings can be photocopied and delivered. Preston's monographs circulate for ten days only, regardless of status. Preston's holdings are reflected in the main library's catalog.

Special Collections and Preservation: Material from the Preservation and Special Collections stacks cannot be photocopied or delivered.

ELIGIBILITY OF SERVICES

To qualify for Library Express service, one must be a valid UTK graduate student, faculty or staff member. All users must be currently registered in the Libraries' database and have no outstanding fines or delinquencies. Undergraduates enrolled in the programs listed below are eligible for Library Express service after the following arrangements have been made. To use LX, a special undergraduate must arrange to have a designated mailbox within the college which they are doing their concentration or the office of the program--deliveries cannot be made to dorms or sites off-campus. Users must make certain that their library record reflects their special status. You can do this by going either to the library or calling circulation services at 974.4351. Once these requirements are met, normal policy applies to all transactions.

Library Express will also page and copy material for any disabled student. Material can be picked up at the main circulation desk in Hodges Library, or delivered to a departmental office if you are faculty, staff, or a graduate student. For disabled students to be eligible for the service, they must be registered with the Office of Disability Services.

WHAT WE DELIVER

We deliver books, bound journals/periodicals and photocopies. Faculty can request that video recordings be delivered after the item has been reserved through the Media Center (974-4473). AgVetMed staff/faculty can have current periodicals from Hodges delivered to them. Reserve items cannot be delivered or copied, except juvenile literature. Microforms cannot be delivered to users, but can be photocopied. Patrons may call and have items from the circulation hold shelf delivered. Material from the Law Library cannot be pulled or copied for users within the library or the College of Law. All bound items will be delivered to your departmental address. WHERE WE DELIVER

Library Express delivers to all Main and Ag campus addresses, including the Johnson Animal Research Building. UTMCK faculty, staff and residents can have material from other UTK libraries delivered to the UTMCK Preston Medical Library or to offices in the UTMCK research building. We also deliver to sites on Lake Street, Terrace Avenue and the Henley Street Conference Center. All deliveries will be made to either the main office or mailroom. UTK Pellissippi sites will be delivered via the Biology Service Facility in Austin Peay, room 123.

HOW TO ORDER

Orders are placed via our web-based portal, ILLiad. The web-site can be accessed at the top of this page. To access ILLiad for registration or for all subsequent log-ins, you will use your UT NetID and Password. For more information about your NetID, please refer to the Office of Information Technology ( Students: 974-9900 / Faculty & Staff: 974-9800). (Note: entry to both your ILL and LX accounts is done using the same ID and password. You do not need to re-register if you are already using one of the services.) Pick up requests can be made via e-mail, phone or ILLiad. We only accept orders for library material via ILLiad.

DELIVERY TIME

Turnaround time for delivery/pick-up is approximately twenty-four hours from the receipt of your order. Extensive orders will take longer. Items ordered from the Storage Stacks, AgVetMed, Law or Preston libraries may take an additional twenty-four hours from receipt of the request. Requests will be handled inS the order received. With the above possible exceptions, orders received on Friday may be delivered the following Monday. Library Express will not be responsible for late fees. Request status can be tracked via your ILLiad account.

BOOK PICK-UP

Patrons can request that books, journals, videos or ILS items be picked-up from their departmental office. Requests for material pick-up can be phoned in, e-mailed done through ILLiad. LX must be notified of all pick-ups. Departmental "drop-off" points are not maintained by LX and do not assure material pick-up unless we are informed. We do not pick up books for renewal. Library Express will not be responsible for late fees. Books donated or gifted to the libraries cannot be picked-up by LX.

PHOTOCOPIES

Photocopies can be made from any UTK-owned journal or periodical. The cost per citation is $2.50 for the first twenty pages and $2.50 for each additional twenty pages. Rates are as follows:

01-20 pages: $2.50
21-40 pages: $5.00
41-60 pages: $7.50

The maximum citation length is 60 pages.

Photocopied material can be delivered one of two ways: courier or electronically. Copies sent electronically will be uploaded to the ILLiad web site after completion. Once this has been done, you will be informed via e-mail. To retrieve your copies, log in to your ILLiad account and from the options on the right side menu choose "electronic delivery pick-up." Copies will remain on-line for thirty days. We will retain a hardcopy of the article for one week.

If you have not selected electronic delivery, your copies will be delivered by our courier to the delivery address designated in your profile.

Payment can be made with either a departmental account number, credit card, or VolCard. If you are paying with an account, a bill will be forwarded to your department by our business office.

Patrons using the cash/check option will have their material delivered upon completion via the delivery method selected. Included with the copy(s), will be a sheet showing the total for the order, any previous balance, and the date by which all the outstanding fees must be paid. We will allow the user to accrue a balance on their library record up until two weeks before the end of the semester. After this date, any unpaid balance will be converted to a fine and the information forwarded to the bursars office--this will put a hold on your records.

Library Express offers faxed service of photocopies to patrons who need the material urgently. The maximum number of pages per order is 15. The cost is $5.00.

Color copies can be made at a cost of $1.00 per page. 10 pages maximum per citation. Color copy orders may take an additional twenty-four hours.

· Library Express does not copy material placed on Reserve.
· Only one copy of an item can be made.
· Copy rates apply to all users, except for disabled students who will be charged cost-per-copy for their requests--see policy regarding disability services.
· Students, Faculty, and Staff registered with the Office of Disabilities Services receive copies and reformatting at no charge.

STORAGE MATERIAL

Journals located in the Storage stacks can be ordered via Library Express only if you want the material delivered. Orders for Storage items wanted for pick-up at Hodges or a branch should be made here: Storage. (Note: storage material may take an additional twenty-four hours for delivery.)

RECALLING AND HOLDING OF ON-LOAN ITEMS

Library Express will place holds, recalls and searches on material checked out or missing. Missing material will be searched for one week after the order is received. If the material is not found within that time, the request will be forwarded to Interlibrary Loan. Recalled items not returned within fifteen days of being due will be forwarded to ILL. Both recalled material and located missing items will be delivered as they become available.
