Tennessee Reads: Celebrating the Literature of Tennessee
New book club features titles from UT Press

September 20, 2004: Tennessee has a great literary history. From Pulitzer Prize winners like James Agee, Robert Penn Warren and Peter Taylor, to notable authors and poets like Alex Haley, Ann Patchett, Nikki Giovanni and Cormac McCarthy, many a Tennesseean has put pen to paper and received international acclaim.
In honor of Tennessee literature, the University of Tennessee Press and University Libraries are launching Tennessee Reads, a book club featuring titles from the University of Tennessee Press.
The kickoff event for the book club will feature author Dan Pierce and his book, The Great Smokies: From Natural Habitat to National Park. Pierce earned a Ph.D. in history from UT in 1995, and teaches at the University of North Carolina, Asheville.
Attendees will have an opportunity to speak with Pierce and purchase the book. The book club will meet again in the spring to discuss the book and announce the next selection for Tennessee Reads.
Join us in celebrating the great literature of Tennessee with Tennessee Reads!
