The University Archives maintains and collects materials related to the athletic
history of the University. Consisting of game guides, press releases, team rosters,
annual guides, general athletic publications, and some athletic ephemera, these
materials cover men's and women's sporting events for both intercollegiate and
intramural competition from the early 1900s to the present. Some of the sports
covered include football, basketball, baseball, track and field, swimming and
diving, volleyball, golf, tennis, cross country, and wrestling. In addition
to a small amount of ephemera, the Archives contains the entire run of the UT
Athletic Department's publication Volunteers Magazine.
In addition, the Archives
retains publications devoted to special sporting events including tournament
programs, as well as materials related to the UT Football team winning the 1998
NCAA National Championship. Most of the materials before the 1990s have been
cataloged, but many of the more recent materials are still being entered into
the online system. Publication lists are available for these uncataloged items.
Titles kept by the Archives can be accessed via
UTK's online catalog. Materials
may be requested in the Reading Room of the
Special Collections Library.
