The University Archives maintains and collects several publications that are
useful in locating information about students or alumni. These materials include
The Volunteer, the official student yearbook; The Tennessee Alumnus, a publication
that tracks and reports on alumni; The Record, a series encompassing a variety
of University publications; The Register, catalogs of students and announcements
of courses; student and faculty directories; graduation and commencement programs;
student handbooks; and other ephemeral publications about students and alumni.
Indexes for many of these items are available.
The University Archives also retains permanent undergraduate student records
transferred from the University Registrar. These ledger books and card files
include student information from the 1840s to the 1910s. The Graduate School
also transferred card files listing all graduate students from the early 1900s
to the 1990s. These collections provide genealogical and student information
for UT students from the past 150 years.
Titles kept by the Archives can be accessed via
UTK's online catalog. Materials
may be requested in the Reading Room of the
Special Collections Library.
