The University Archives is dedicated to collecting the published works of the
University of Tennessee. These works are defined as publications produced under
the auspices of the University community by faculty, students, departments,
outside scholars, administrative offices, and other campus organizations. Examples
include books detailing the history of the University, a journal of student
work produced by a campus department, a football gamebook, campus newspapers,
UT Press publications, or a UT yearbook. These publications have been cataloged
and are accessible through UTK's
online library catalog.
Other University publications in unusual formats such as brochures, departmental
announcements, and broadsides are retained by the University Archives, but
are usually kept within the record group for that department or creating organization,
or housed in historical files. Many of these materials have not been cataloged,
but are still accessible either through finding aids or updated publication
lists.
Together, these publications document the history and scholarship of the
University, by providing researchers with information on alumni, campus life
and activities, and local and regional history. Patrons can request and use
these materials in the
Special Collections Library reading room on the second
floor of the
Hoskins Library. Before visiting, however, patrons should target
specific types of materials by looking at University Publications through
the following categories:
