Abstract: This collection contains papers of Jeanne Barkely of the University of Tennessee Office of Alumni Affairs. It contains correspondence with former students, alumni, UT officials including Andy Holt, Herman Spivey, and Jack Reese, as well as press releases, Hill-O-Grams, brochures, a Board of Trustees Resolution, UT miscellaneous papers including a list of fraternity and sorority presidents in 1935, an ROTC petition, and a report of James Hoskins to the legislature in 1935. It also includes the correspondence of Victor M. Davis of the Bureau of Appointments Office, and John Smartt, executive secretary of the Alumni Affairs Office.

Biographical Note: Jeanne Barkley worked for the Office of Alumni Affairs from 1944 until her retirement in 1985.
    John Smartt worked at the Office for Alumni Affairs from 1948 to 1970, eventually serving as Director before leaving to practice law.

Scope and Content Note: This collection includes papers of Jeanne Barkley, member of the Office of Alumni Affairs. Papers include correspondence, official and personal, to and from Jeanne Barkley, alumni, UT administration, congressmen, and others. Correspondence is also included from former Alumni Affairs employees, John Smartt and Victor M. Davis. Letters date from 1934 to 1985. The collection also includes Hill-O-Grams from 1944-45 with a listing of UT graduates and students currently in the army with their rank and location. Also included is a brochure from the Alumni Association, 1970, a printed image of Salem Presbyterian Church, a list of the first coeds at the University, a photocopy of the address of Rev. Joseph Foot from 1840, a brochure for the Andrew Johnson Hotel, a list of presidents of fraternities and sororities from 1935, an ROTC petition, and a speech made by James Hoskins to the state legislature on March 5, 1935, and an undated report on the control of state universities. Collection includes a 1960 letter C. Jack Brakebill, Jr., resigning from his position on the Board of the Presbyterian Center at the University of Tennessee in protest of Martin Luther King being asked to speak there.
