Biographical Note: During the First World War, the University of Tennessee, with an already established active military program, converted this program into the Reserved Officer Training Corps in an attempt to keep the University open and running while students and faculty left for war. Students who remained on campus primarily entered the Student Army Training Corps, which provided tuition and stipends for students learning both college and military subject matter.

Scope and Content Note: This collection consists of a framed oversize photograph of Company "B," Training Detachment from the University of Tennessee, July-Aug. 1918. It shows Company "B" in formation on the grounds of Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, TN. The photograph contains the additional note, "Thompson "Photo 4" Knoxville" on the lower right hand corner.
