Biographical Note: Dean L. R. Hesler served for fifteen years as the head of the Department of Botany and for twenty-four years as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Tennessee. He was recognized as the national authority on mushrooms and related fungi of the Southeastern United States.
    Ester Lillian Collins Hesler was the daughter of George Brinton and Lillian Speer Collins, from Genesee County, NY. She study history and German at the University of Michigan, taught at Bergen high school in New York state. She married L. R. Hesler on July 2, 1914, and moved to Knoxville where she taught English in several schools in Knox County.

Scope and Content Note: This collection consists of photographs of L. R. Hesler and family, and some biographical information on family members such as his wife Ester Collins Hesler, and her brother George LeRoy Collins. There are also photographs of a Dr. Hollingsworth in the Smoky Mountain National Park and other professors.
